Me. (Click to embiggen.)

I’m Scott Kenemore, the author of four zombie-themed satires:

One unclassifiable, found-document, epistolary thing:

And, with Franco Mercado, a war memoir:

My short fiction has appeared in journals like Mudrock, The Owl, The Kenyon Review, and The Kenyon Review Online.  My ribald limericks and haikus have appeared in Brocabulary (HarperCollins) and the Chicago Sun-Times.com.  My essays have appeared in Slate, Paranormal Pop Culture, the New York Times Local East Village, PopMatters, and Rawk! I started this blog because I am so frequently prompted to talk about zombies, and so frequently asked to give my opinion of new zombie-stuff in the media.

I have discussed zombies on the Fox News Channel, National Public Radio, Martha Stewart Living Radio, The Alan Colmes Show and other esteemed news outlets.  My books have been written about in the Chicago Tribune, Huffington Post, Hartford Courant, Sacramento Bee, Indianapolis Star, Cleveland Plain Dealer, USA TODAY, Rue Morgue Magazine, Fangoria, Gawker.com, BoingBoing.netAOL News, and the New York Times “City Room” blog.

I have been asked to discuss zombies and horror-writing at conventions like Comic-Con International, Spooky Empire, and ZomBcon.

In 2009, I was named to the advisory board of the Zombie Research Society.  In 2011, I was admitted to the Horror Writers Association.

I play drums in the musical band The Blissters.  I live in Chicago.  I am a graduate of Kenyon College and Columbia University.

  2. Scott,

Loved your book about the Zen of Zombies, it was well written and very thought provocating. I see you review films about the undead, soI’d like to offer you the chance to glance at my ebook “Uprising” a zombie/social commentary. You can visit my website (www.swordforhire.net), the publisher (www.darkroastpress.com), or even watch the video trailer on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/swordforhire60). Let me know what you think!

    Sincerely (undead),

  10. You might be interested in some music by the Fossil Aerosol Mining Project. Two largely undiscovered CDs are composed of artifacts and relics from zombie films of the 1980s: “If You Enjoyed the Dawn of the Dead” (2006), and the more recent “The First 15 Minutes of the Second Sequel” (2010). Free samples are at Afterdaysmedia.com and they can be downloaded from iTunes, Amazon, etc.
    Cheers-

Scott–I wanted to say thank you for the review of Crusade. To be compared to Beowulf, well, that is pretty heady stuff! And then when I looked at who wrote the review, and I said, wait a second, I have a book by that guy…and sure enough I did, Zen of Zombie (which I thoroughly enjoyed!). And now I look forward to reading your other undead satires and the release of Zombie, Ohio in ’11. I’ve asked the wife for your other books for X-Mas as I am busy now writing (Eden 3–Resurrection), reading (things I think might be good for me to read as I write Eden 3), and working my day job to be able to enjoy them at the present moment. Thanks man!!

  12. Just wanted to submit a link. You might be interested to hear a zombie radio-play:

Scott – THANK YOU for Zombie, OH! I recently flew to Cleveland (yes, on purpose). On the day I was supposed to come home, there was a major snowstorm between there and here. My flight was delayed an hour… then 2… then 5! Wanting some distraction from the oh-so-very-annoyed people-watching I had been doing, I wandered into the bookstore and right away saw Zombie, OH. No question – this is what I needed to see me thru my layover. …Okay, the book and a Guinness in the airport bar. I was so engrossed (boo!) that I just about missed the announcement that my formerly delayed flight was boarding in 10 minutes. Thank you for making my lasting impression of oHIo a favorable one. You’re a life saver (?!) !
The Blissters should play in Minneapolis/St. Paul!
XOXOO but not my brain –

I read the Zen of Zombie Im not a avid book reader I usually pick up a book and skim through and put it down. This book was brilliantly funny I couldn’t put it down I blasted through it in 9 hrs and was in gut busting laugh mode most of the time thank you for sharing your life enlighting ideas with zombie zen. Because zombies just don’t give a shit.

    Mr. Kenemore,
As a graduate of Kenyon College (class of 1980), I was struck by your description of the ascent at the main entrance to Kenton College. I new it had to be Kenyon and that Gant, Ohio had to be Gambier. I am currently reading your novel Zombie, Ohio and I love it.
Although I am 53, I and a half dozen friends went to Columbus to see the opening of “Dawn of the Dead”. I became a zombie fan right then, but it was to be 25 years before the genre became popular in novel form. So I am kind of reliving part of my youth.
This novel, so far, is one of the best written of the genre. Thanks.
    Jeffrey Curtiss

    Rock it!

  19. What a great zombie blog!

I’ve been blogging about zombies lately and the smash hit web series, ‘Bite Me’. It’s a story about three hardcore gamers that use their video games skills to survive during a zombie outbreak.

I just interviewed one of the stars of the show. And I’m running a four-part series on my blog. I’m going to profile each of the principal cast members leading up to the March 6th air date of the second season.

I’m calling it – “The Bite Me Interviews” and you can read part one, with actor Justin Giddings.

To read the interview or watch a promo for Bite Me, go to: http://www.mentalswag.com

Feel free to excerpt my post, but please link back to: http://www.mentalswag.com

And watch out for the zombies.

    Cheers!

  21. Greetings Mr. Kenemore,

With all the noise in the news about the pending zombie apocalypse, we thought you might like to hear that someone’s taken action to document the phenomenon.

Mad Genius is an anonymous pop group who uses on news samples and social media to construct their songs. They have a series they’re working on charting the year 2012 in news and trends. Noticing the zombie hoard beginning to spread, they created the track “How To Build A Zombie Apocalypse” in response. We thought you might enjoy a listen…
